Friends and Family, It has been a very long time (t00 long) since I've last posted. It is the most wonderful time and the busiest time of the year. I haven't had the pleasure of working at LolaRue and Company since the fantansic open house! The life of teaching and being an aunt to a new, beautiful niece (Hello Nora Renee!) has gotten the best of me. However, the open house was the best we've had yet! Thank you for all of you that came out and waited patiently in line for all of our finds, hand crafted designs, and unique gifts. We wouldn't be LolaRue without you! Now is the time for gifts. I haven't been to the store in a couple of weeks, and when I walked in today I was delighted to see and smell our fall scents of 1803 Candles. If you aren't familiar with these, you must, must, must stop by the store and smell them. They smell good enough to eat!

I've missed being here! I stopped by today to take pictures to post, and I found myself very happy wandering around the store looking at all the wonderful new items! We have new furniture finds, soaps, rugs, jewelry, greenery, and seasonal items.

Fall is my favorite time of year! I love everything about it! Well, almost everything...I hate fall allergies. But, the rest makes me SO happy! I love the crisp, cool air! I love the amazing colors! I love the sound of leaves crunching under my feet! I love sweatshirts! I love college football (that one is for you Jonathan)! I love the excitement in the eyes of children when they knock on my door to trick-or-treat! Oh yeah...I'm already thinking of Halloween.

And so is LolaRue! We have our Halloween decorations out and they are SO MUCH FUN!

LOVE, LOVE, LOVE these owls! Maybe because they remind me of Harry Potter, or maybe because they are just that cool!

This post is a little more personal than the last few. It's just that life has been busy for a lot of us, and sometimes it is easy to lose track of the things that truly matter.

Lately, the phrase "live in thanks" has been running through my head like a broken record. This is an adage I always try to live by, but sometimes have to force myself to do so when things don't seem to be going "my" way. Do you know what I mean?

Maybe it is because you didn't get the job you wanted.

Maybe there are more bills to pay than there is money in the bank.

Maybe someone you love is sick.

Maybe you are sick.

Maybe you feel you are being pulled in a million different directions by a million of different people.

Maybe someone you love has been taken away from you before you are ready to give them up.

No matter the reason... sometimes life seems unfair.

Although things don't always work out according to our plan, it is important to remember that things are working out according to God's plan. His plan is greater than any plan we can imagine for ourselves. It is important to live our life in thanks for all that we have.

My challenge to you in this busy time of year is remember to take time to give thanks in everything. There are many ways to do this. I encourage you to post a comment on how you give thanks. Remember to live an inspired life. XOXO Kelli

Countdown to Move-In Week

This Friday officially marks what we in Bloomington call Move-In week. It is the time when all IU students return, and everything about Bloomington is BUSY!

As I mentioned before, the ladies of LolaRue have been working hard on filling the store with finds and new pieces for just this reason.

We LOVE when the students return, we LOVE new customers, but we LOVE, LOVE, LOVE our regular customers. In honor of all, we are running a special from now until the end of August... Paint, Paint, and more paint

So I was inspired to make my little, old kitchen look a bit more updated without spending a lot of money.

What did I decide to do, you ask?

Well, paint my cabinets white of course.

Will I ever paint my cabinets again, you ask?

NO! Not ever. Not even if someone paid me...well, that's a lie...I would totally do it if someone paid me. But, I will never ever, in my own kitchen, decide to paint perfectly good cabinets again! Don't get me wrong, I do love how the little space seems a bit brighter and cleaner. It was just hard work and the cabinets don't seem to hang as well as they used to. However, I am wondering if that has more to do with the fact that my house is 110 years old and nothing works quite like it is supposed to than with the paint itself???? On the plus side, I was able to spend a lovely day painting with my wonderful friend, Amber.

My house is a work in progress, and there are a lot more projects that need to be done. For now, however, I am taking a break from painting. At least at home.

We have been painting like crazy at the store. Lisa found some AWESOME furniture pieces over the weekend, and we've been funking them up.

My favorite is this buffet. I love the contrast of the dark wood and cream paint. Very cool!!!

We also made these unique wall hangers and organizers.

Hmmm...this one would look FANTASTIC in my freshly painted kitchen...I'm just sayin.

We also have some new, unique gift ideas such as this ironstone platter bundled with gourmet food by Bella Cucina and a fresh lavender bouquet. Great gift for a wedding shower !

First Time Blogger

The other day, Lisa charged me with the task of keeping the blog up-to-date. I am excited to do this, but a little nervous. Turns out, I have no idea what to say on the blog. I keep looking at all our favorites, and feel a bit intimidated by their wit, humor, and expertise.

So...I thought a good start would be to introduce myself to those of you who don't know me. My name is Kelli Odell. I have been happily married to Jonathan for almost 3 years.

I am the mother to these 2 beautiful kids, Concho and Willow.

I graduated from grad school in December with my teaching license. I am one project away from having my Master's in Education. (I am available for hire if there are any principals following us...)

And, I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE working at LolaRue. I am blessed to say I actually look forward to going to work.

I love creating!

Summer is a lovely time in Bloomington, Indiana. Most of the students return home for the summer making it very quiet downtown...which means minimal traffic, lots of parking spaces, little to no wait time at your favorite restaurant on a Friday night, and plenty of time for the ladies of LolaRue & Company to shop, pick, and create new and exciting custom furniture, jewelry, and home decor.

Silver Bella...

As you may have heard, several of us from LolaRue & Company traveled to Omaha, Nebraska several weeks ago for an unbelievable paper arts event called Silver Bella. Amazing women from all over the country participate in this 2 day extravaganza to learn new techniques to use in future projects and to bond with some of the most creative women around...Jeanne at A Bushel & A Peck was someone all of us were dying to meet after reading her blog this past year... Swaps are a big part of the Silver Bella experience. Lisa participated in a one-on-one Royal Crown Swap. She created a beautiful piece of art for the talented Marie Jenkins...

And, LolaRue & Company was a vendor for the much anticipated Silver Bella Vendor Night. Our booth was just packed all evening with customers. What a great experience....

At some point one would think as much as I love to read the blogs that I would love to post my blog but such is not the case...

I am not a very technical kinda of gal. Give me a screwdriver, staple gun, glitter, glue and some old sheet music and you could walk away with a new car BUT give me a keyboard and cable to plug in somewhere to download something and my stress levels rise.....Why can't I enjoy it as an artistic endeavor! Well I am determined, this blog thing starts now! I am not to be intimidated! I 've been given some wonderful diy pointers for the store's blog and I'm off and running. The holidays are past and everyone has come up for air here at LolaRue and Company.

Great things happening here at the store....Bloom magazine is doing a small layout on us in the February issue. What a great magazine! They have really profiled our town in such a beautiful way......

New things in the store this week, the most luscious smelling candles ever....Kobo's new botanial line is in and they are so fragrant......We love this candle and they are flying off the shelf. My personal pick Fresh Currant....Yum, Yum, Yum.....Beautiful valentine inspired jewelry and votives and fun home accents. Pine Cone Hill is coming in next week with a beautiful peony and lime bedding group. Check out the petite french daybed will be displaying it on. Vintage monogrammed pillows from fine irish linen. Are they your monogram? Probably not but I've never seen an old mongrammed linen that I could pass up. They make me swoon.......

Workshops for January

January 21, MLK Day, Monday......for those that need the respite after the kids are out for the day, come join us at 6:00 pm for a beautiful journal workshop. These are so sweet and a great gift....Easily customized to you or that special loved one. We'll be creating these out of old books, sheet music, granny's button box (of course), old ribbon, rhinestone buckles, etc.....

Cost of the class is $20.00 and will include a light meal and drink. Call the store at 323-7010 to reserve your spot...They fill up quickly and are prepaid in advance.

January 25th, Friday 6:00 pm

Soldered silver class led by the Queen of creative , Hope Ellington! Pendants, necklace, ornaments, The sky is the limit with this workshop....Create and embellish to your hearts content.....Maybe something for a valentine? Call the store to reserve your spot. Payment in advance is required to reserve your spot, please....

HOORAY! CLASS NIGHT SCHEDULED!

Our second project class is scheduled. We will be making a solder pendant hosted by Ms Hope Ellington herself. Aren't we excited! There will be two classes of 12 and classes will fill up fast so call in to the store or email me to reserve a spot. Cost of the class is $25.00 prepaid please and all materials are included as well as some goodies to eat. The ideas for this pendant are endless and I'm sure you've all seen examples of Hope's work. If you have not then see the pictures here and gather some ideas to sandwich in between the glass of your pendant and come join us! You could use a personal picture of your kids, significant other, etc. or you could use a font letter from the store stamps. Your initial perhaps or just a special word typed on the computer and collaged together with some fun scrap paper. The possibilities are endless. The pendant will measure 1" x 3" so plan accordingly. If you are planning on using a picture, you will need to bring a picture that is already reduced and ready to sandwich between glass.

The store has been buzzing this week. New things coming in everyday from various local artists as well as some great deals we just could not pass up from several out of town vendors. We have passed those deals on to you so please stop in this week and check out the new shipments. A lovely new jewelery line coming in Thursday as well as some of our handpainted windows, paper wreaths, and hand done holiday cloches that you won't want to miss.

GRAND OPENING!

Thanks to all for your love and support this last weekend. Grand opening was a huge success ......We got great feedback and we're so happy to be welcomed into the downtown community. New items arriving daily. Our Pine Cone Hill order should be here this week as well as some wonderful scripture dishes. Some primitive pieces just came in. It's like Christmas everyday here, I tell you! Please keep checking back for news of the project room updates. Our first project night is tentively scheduled for the week after Thanksgiving and will be the creation of a gorgeous advent calender. Such exciting events that lead up to a store opening... Today is October 18.....16 days and counting til our official GRAND OPENING...The nail biting, the continued self doubt.... Do we have enough? Do we have too much? Will they love everything as much as we do? The store is evolving everyday with the arrival of new shipments and fun and eclectic items made by the sisters etc.....We are having the times of our lives and hope you all join us November 3.....
